Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important official stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
